Cookie Policy

This document explains what cookies are, which cookies VOKT places on your device, why they are used, how long they last, and how you can control them. It applies to the public website at vokt.ai, including the sign in and account pages.

It does not describe the processing of data inside the VOKT platform by customers of the service. That processing is governed by the agreement between VOKT and the customer, and by the Privacy Policy.

What Are Cookies

A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your computer or mobile device when you visit. When you return, the site can read that file and recognise your browser. Cookies allow a website to remember your actions and preferences, such as whether you are signed in or which language you selected, so that you do not need to provide the same information again on every page.

Cookies are not programs. They cannot execute code on your device, read your files, or carry malicious software. They store only small amounts of information, such as a session identifier or a record that you have answered a consent banner.

Several related technologies perform a similar function and are treated in the same way in this policy. Local storage is a larger store built into your browser that a site may read and write. Pixels are small invisible images that confirm to a server that a page was opened. Tags and scripts are pieces of code that load an external service, such as an analytics provider. European law addresses what is stored on or read from a user's device, rather than the particular technology used to do so. In Norway this is regulated by the Electronic Communications Act (ekomloven), in force since 1 January 2025, which requires consent that meets the standard of the General Data Protection Regulation for every cookie that is not strictly necessary.

Why VOKT Uses Cookies

Cookies are used for three purposes. Cookies in the first category are necessary for the website to function and cannot be disabled. Cookies in the second and third categories are placed only if you consent, and consent may be withdrawn at any time.

Cookies Necessary for the Website to Function

These cookies allow the site to operate. They maintain your session as you move between pages, protect that session against misuse, and record your response to the cookie banner so that you are not asked repeatedly. Without them the site cannot keep you signed in.

European regulatory guidance identifies a limited set of cookie types that are exempt from the consent requirement because they are strictly necessary to provide a service the user has requested (Article 29 Data Protection Working Party, 2012). These are the categories VOKT relies on for exemption:

User input cookies, which retain what a user has entered across the pages of a form

Authentication cookies, which identify a signed in user across pages

User centric security cookies, which detect repeated failed sign in attempts and similar abuse

Load balancing session cookies, which direct a request to the correct server

User interface customisation cookies, which retain a stated preference such as language

Any cookie that does not fall within one of these categories requires consent before it is placed.

Cookies That Measure How the Website Is Used

These cookies record which pages are read, how visitors arrived, and where they stop. The purpose is to identify what is unclear and improve it. The result is aggregate information about visits rather than a profile of an individual. These cookies are placed only with consent.

Cookies That Measure Marketing

These cookies record whether a campaign brought a visitor to the site, and may allow a platform to display VOKT content elsewhere. These cookies are placed only with consent.

VOKT does not use cookies to construct advertising profiles and does not sell information collected through cookies.

How Long Cookies Remain on Your Device

The duration depends on whether a cookie is a session cookie or a persistent cookie. Session cookies are removed when you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain until they expire or until you delete them.

How to Control Cookies

You control every cookie except those necessary for the website to function.

Changing Your Choices on vokt.ai

A cookie settings link is provided in the footer of every page. It allows each category to be enabled or disabled, and a change takes effect immediately. No account is required and it is not necessary to contact VOKT.

The Effect of Declining

The website continues to operate. All pages remain readable, a demonstration may still be requested, and sign in works normally. The only consequence is that VOKT receives less information about how the site is used.

Controlling Cookies Through Your Browser

A browser can be configured to block or delete cookies for every website, not only this one. Blocking all cookies will prevent parts of most websites from working, including remaining signed in. Instructions are available in the help documentation of each browser, and general guidance on cookie management is published at allaboutcookies.org.

Do Not Track

Some browsers can transmit a Do Not Track signal. No agreed standard governs how a website should respond to it, and VOKT does not rely on it. The cookie settings link on the site is the mechanism VOKT acts upon.

Your Rights

Where information collected through cookies can be associated with an identifiable person, it constitutes personal data under Regulation (EU) 2016/679. In that case you have the right to obtain confirmation of what is held, to have it corrected or erased, to object to its use, and to receive a copy. The Privacy Policy sets out these rights and the procedure for exercising them.

A complaint may be submitted to a supervisory authority. The supervisory authority for Norway is Datatilsynet.

Changes to This Policy

If a cookie is added or removed, this policy will be revised and the date at the top updated. Where a change affects the purposes for which consent is sought, consent will be requested again through the cookie banner.
